The knock on the door was more like a bang; it scared the crap out of me. But it was totally worth it. I was expecting the package so I brought it in here and excitedly tore it open like a kid on Christmas morning.

Inside were a few lumpy things, wrapped in paper towels and unrecognizable. But as my hand grabbed one I knew I had the one I really wanted, and I gazed at it lovingly.

It wasn’t in the best of shape of course, but that was to be expected. Besides there’s something rewarding about caring for old things that are still good, or will be with a few minutes’ work.

I turned it over and over in my hands, examining it from all angles, and then of course I broke out the vaseline.

I know vaseline is really low-tech for this, perhaps not the best tool for the job (and [livejournal.com profile] diffrentcolours don’t you dare say anything about Crisco!), but I knew I’d have a hard time finding anything better and vaseline certainly wouldn’t hurt it and is a lot better than nothing.

I rubbed it in with my fingers -- again I know I could use a cloth but I’d have to go and find one and all that boring stuff, and I was too excited. Besides it was good to feel the black leather under my fingertips again.

I put it on; it still fit perfectly of course. I grinned.

Now I just need a partner, someone to play with...

That’s right, I got my softball glove back! Now who wants to hae a catch?
