[336/366] Elliot
Dec. 1st, 2020 10:47 pmOne thing I love about the coverage of Elliot Page's coming out is that it not only included that he uses both he/him and they/them pronouns but then the article I read used mostly he but also they pronouns.
His announcement was really warm and thoughtful too. I'm struck again, as I was by the last celebrity I saw coming out as trans, Kae Tempest, how eloquent people can be at times like this. And that's so lovely but I worry it's a little pre-emptive because people feel it needs to be. I feel like the bar's still pretty high for what's expected in this kind of situation, and I can't wait for when coming out can be more awkward or messy and still well-received. I can't wait until people don't have to be perfect and gracious even as they know they're making themselves a target of bigotry.
